    I am using WP Simple Shopping Cart plugin and on Friday one of the orders failed. The paypal payment went through and both buyer and seller got invoices, but the email notifications didn’t happen and the order hasn’t gone into “cart orders”. I have debug on and the error message says the following:

    [05/08/2020 11:54 AM] – SUCCESS :Order post id: 1098
    [05/08/2020 11:54 AM] – FAILURE :Order ID 1098 does not exist in the database. This is not a Simple PayPal Shopping Cart order
    [05/08/2020 11:54 AM] – FAILURE :IPN product validation failed.
    [05/08/2020 11:54 AM] – SUCCESS :Paypal class finished.

    Orders before and after that one have worked fine. Paypal was having notification delays earlier this week, but its status page says all is now operational

    This may have been a one off PayPal issue. Since the order are going through as per your message above.

    yes you could be right. I just feel a bit uncomfortable leaving it as it may happen again.

    Can I ask you a question? This error message:

    FAILURE :Order ID 1098 does not exist in the database. This is not a Simple PayPal Shopping Cart order

    Is that created by paypal or by the plugin .. if it is the plugin, then can you see what circumstances make it fire off?

    That failure is created by our plugin because it did not recognize the order ID.

    I see .. and so does that definitely tie in with there being a problem at Paypal do you think?

    Yes, this might have been related to the PayPal incident at that particular moment.

    However I am not 100% sure about this myself.

    No, unfortunately our plugin cannot manage PayPal issues.

    Yes, please make a note of any issues you run into. Remember you can always enable Debug mode. This will allow you to keep a copy of the log files locally.
