• The WP Social plugin had been working fine ever since I installed it. Two days ago, I noticed that all the comments from every single post with the exception of the one I published on Apr. 27th.

The plugin is still displaying on my blog. But it says “0 Comments”. The link that I sent you had at least six or seven comments, including one from the coach of the team that I had featured. It is only one of at least 16 blog posts that do not have comments. Be advised that the link that follows does have comments showing. Perhaps you can detect some difference that I don’t have the expertise to see.

I looked through the topics on the forum and saw issues that were similar, but not quite exactly what I am experiencing. That is why I started this new thread.

I did not do anything to my blog theme (Daily) or the plugin itself that would have resulted in this. I need to recover all the comments that were lost. My understanding is that demonstrating increased engagement helps with Google rankings. With all of mine being lost, I believe this will have a negative impact. Can you help me resolve this issue? Please let me know what else you need. Thank you.

    Hi,

Did you change/update your SSL certificate? If you change your URL from http to httpS or vice versa, your comments will not show as Facebook keeps comments by URL and changing protocol, URL will be considered a different one.
You can turn on the option from plugin settings to show comments before SSL.

If this is not the case then can you check these URLs by going to your Facebook App moderation tools? Can you see comments there?

You provided two URLs. One has 4 comments about 4 days old. The other URL has no comments. Please check from your App moderation tools and let us know.

Please feel free for any further question if you face by checking with App.

    Regards

I did not change my SSL certificate. I set it up as “https” from the very beginning over three months ago. But when I looked at the Facebook App moderation tools, the URL for the posts both with and without the comments say “http”.

Then I cut and pasted the URL from one of the posts missing the comments into the Facebook App Moderation Tools. This time I made sure it said “https”. The comments appeared in the space below.

I see that there is a button that says, “Get Code”. Where would that go once I get it? Would I have to perform the same task on each post to get the comments back on my page? What is the most efficient way to handle this?

Still don’t understand how the SSL got changed. As mentioned before, my main URL has always been https://navysportsnation.com Somehow the comments were being entered with a URL that read “http”. In the plugin, I did have the option selected that says “Show comments before SSL” just to cover all of my bases. Please let me know the best way to proceed. Thank you.

Just following up on my communication above. I would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thank you.

I am trying my best to understand what is going on with my website. I just published a new article this morning. As I stated before, my sports blog has had an SSL certificate since it was created in January. And initially, all comments through the WP Social plugin reflected that.

My post this morning has a couple of comments on it, but they show being posted to the this URL: https://navysportsnation.com/how-can-the-miami-dolphins…/. Not the secure one.

My question is why does it show an “http” URL when I never set it up that way or changed it? And when I type my sports blog name into Google, the secure URL comes up, as evidenced by the “lock” icon next to the name.

Finally, even some of the comments that were posted to the secure URL now say “http” but they still don’t show up in the comments section. The inconsistencies are frustrating.

I think I could solve the problem if you could navigate me to the exact place where the code needs to be added. I did ask for some assistance from the tech support team that hosts my website. But they were very skittish about adding code wherever it needs to be added because they were afraid it might disable something else. I found that odd since the plugin is compatible with the latest version of WordPress. I figure as long as the code is added to in the correct location, everything would be fine.

    Best regards,

    Karl

I wanted include the code I’ve instructed to add to get the comments to appear again. I just need to be navigated to the exact place where it needs to be added. I am only showing Steps 2 and 3 because step on is already completed.

Step 2: Include the JavaScript SDK on your page once, ideally right after the opening body tag.
    <div id=”fb-root”></div>
    <script async defer crossorigin=”anonymous” src=”https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v6.0&appId=1038597299834259&autoLogAppEvents=1″></script&gt;

Step 3: Place this code wherever you want the plugin to appear on your page.
    <div class=”fb-comments” data-href=”https://navysportsnation.com/how-02-seconds-earned-jake-brophy-a-permanent-place-in-the-navy-track-field-record-books/&#8221; data-numposts=”10″ data-width=””></div>

I just need the path to navigate to where this code should be added. I don’t know where the “opening body tag” is for Step 2. Also Step 3 is unclear to me. I want the plugin to appear in the exact same location as the original one. But I thought that one was just added right after the end of the post. I am assuming I will need to do this for each post that is affected. Please advise. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi,

We can let you know the line numbers of the code but its better not to add it by yourself as it may break the site. We can do it for you safely with testing and can provide you the updated copy if it resolves your issue.

Or after detail testing, if its benificial for other users, we will add this in our next release too. Let us know how you want to proceed.

I’ve been following this thread and are curious if your domain is submitted to and verified in Facebook business manager? Might not be your problem but is suggested for security reasons.

    Thread Starter kdusna84

    (@kdusna84)

@bbssysop: It is verified through Google. Didn’t even realize that Facebook Manager had a means to do that until you mentioned it. So I went ahead and checked that box just now. Thanks for the suggestion.
