  • I have this error too. on 14.0.3 and 14.0.4

I’m really sorry I clicked to speed up my site. Doing this deleted all my site’s logos, menus, and typography. Only my content remains.

I’m using 14.0.4 on the site. Another site I have 14.0.4 on but didn’t click to speed up has no problems at all. It’s after clicking to optimize that the problems happened.

I’ve deactivated the plugin and cleared caches, and the problem persists. Do I have to rebuild my site? I sure hope not.

UPDATE: I reinstalled a backup database and that took care of the issue. Only a minimal amount of re-do.

Hi @guz86, I’m sorry to hear that it’s not working for you. If you haven’t yet, can you update to Yoast SEO 14.0.4 and try the following:

    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools -> Yoast Test
    3. Hit the “Reset indexables & migrations” button
    4. Try the optimize button again

If you are familiar with the WordPress Command Line Interface (WP-CLI) you can also follow this guide to re-index.

Alternatively, you can also do nothing, in this case, the database will “lazy load”: it’ll slowly fill as posts are visited.

@opalescent that sounds very frustrating and I’m sorry this happened to you. When we speed up your site, we copy lots of stuff but we don’t delete anything, so that’s some unexpected behavior. We’d recommend doing nothing because the database will slowly fill as you visit posts and pages.

@guz86 If the issue is still occurring this could also be caused by a plugin or theme conflict interfering with the function. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Check for conflicts.
    2. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

    3. Hit the “Reset indexables & migrations” button

I am facing this error “Oops, something has gone wrong and we couldn’t complete the optimization of your SEO data. Please click the button again to re-start the process.”
Earlier I was using Yoast free plugin after converting to the premium one I cant optimise data, Please help a total newbie here non-techi person, on the other hand, I have used the Yoast test plugin and Reset Indexable tables & Migrations the error is still there. Any help will be much appreciated!
    Waiting for your reply!
    Thanks & Best Regards

This problem persists despite yoast marking this resolved. I am using the latest 16.2 version and get the same error – and the proposed resolution does not work. Sorry I spent money on this. I shall now go lament in the review section so other folk think twice about spending their own money.
