    Hi

I am having issues at the verification of site ownership stage.

I am getting the error message below:

“The necessary verification token could not be found on your site. This may be related to your site using a page caching plugin. Please flush your home page cache and then try again.”

I have tried clearing the home page cache, deactivating all plug ins and changing to a default wordpress theme.

I’m at a loss what to do next.

    Thanks for any help!!

@metcala Sorry to hear you’ve been encountering issues during setup. Can you let me know the following and we can hopefully help get Site Kit connected:
    1. Your site URL and Site Health information.
    2. Your current hosting provider

If you prefer to share privately you can use this form.

@metcala Thanks for providing the requested information. Have you attempted setup using a browser incognito window and with your caching plugin deactivated?

If so please share the variations of your site you can see when accessing this link.

Just tried setting up in an incognito window and deactivating the caching plugin but still getting the same error.

Webmaster didn’t show any properties. Went into add a property for the URL and verification was successful.

Retried the set up but still didn’t work.

Sorry if I am doing something stupid!

@metcala No problem, we can perform some further checks. Can you inform me of the following:
    1. Do you have any other sites you can check Site Kit setup with?
    2. With your current hosting provided are you on the dedicated WordPress hosting plan?

I’m afraid I don’t have another site that I can test the Site Kit setup with.

I am on a standard hosting package not a specific WordPress dedicated package.

@metcala No problem at all, we can try and recreate the same issue with your current provider. Before doing so lets try some more troubleshoot steps.

Can you temporarily change permalinks type under “Settings > Permalinks”? Try switching to another type before attempting setup once more.

If that fails can you inform me if you’ve made any modifications to your standard WordPress install, such as modifications to your .htaccess file or host level redirections?

    @jamesosborne

Changed permalinks type and I’m still getting the same issue.

I haven’t made any mods to .htaccess or host redirections.

I have just tried going to google search console and generating the TXT verification code and added a DNS report on the hosting provider.

Not sure if that may work? Going to give it a few hours to update.

Just a heads up setting up the verification in console fixed the problem and I have been able to set up the plugin.

@metcala That’s good to know you’ve been able to successfully setup. We can also keep this in mind for other users who report the same problem. Many thanks
