I started getting HTTP ERROR 500 on my site sometime in the last 15 hours. And I narrowed it down to a problem with Wordfence, by moving it out of the plugins directory.

I tried reinstalling it, but upon clicking ‘Activate’ I get

    503
    Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily busy, try again later!

I tried deleting the wflogs directory and reinstalling, but same deal.

    Any ideas?

(Edit: using WordPress 5.4, php 7.4)

  • Hey @baddadam,

Can you please check the PHP error logs for any errors and share them here? If you’re not sure where these are your host can provide them to you.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Thanks for the response Gerroald

I can’t tell you what happened but it works now. I couldn’t find any relevant error logs. The error initially changed to a wordpress error rather than a 503 error: “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error” when I tried to activate the plugin.

Then I increased the memory available, updated some other plugins (mostly woocommerce) and tried again, and it activated successfully! Cheers, Adam
