Advice about potential Acting/Media site

    Hello,

    We have a potential client that wants to create a site where members/actors can:
    ? Users can create personal profiles including uploaded photos and videos of their work.
    ? Users will be able to post jobs looking to hire actors, photographers, etc or anyone that could potentially be involved in film making
    ? Users will also be able to apply for jobs by uploading their headshot and resume etc.
    ? Current projects
    ? List of locations for shooting videos
    ? Events (workshops, festivals, etc.)
    ? Searchable Database
    ? Contact page
    ? Newsetter sign up

    My question is what kind of hosting would be required for this? Also, what plugins would you recommend for this kind of site?

    You need a lot just for the functional scope, and it also has to be compatible with each other.

    I would be reluctant to recommend a plugin for one of the cases in particular, as it is quite a large construct. I would recommend that you start small and see how it goes, because you will be busy for a very long time setting it up.

    For hosting, I would also start small, but make sure that you can easily book additional resources or switch to higher packages. Many hosters offer something like this.

    Given the complexity of the site and the potential for heavy media uploads (photos, videos), a shared hosting plan likely won’t be sufficient. Something to consider, but a dedicated host may be best with one of the recommended hosts. Or a VPS, then use a plugin like WP Offload Media to offload media files to cloud storage to save server space and ensure faster media delivery.

    Additional considerations;

    • Disk Space: Since users will upload photos and videos, ensure a minimum of 50GB+ of storage space, with the ability to scale up as needed.
    • Bandwidth: High bandwidth is crucial to accommodate media streaming and file downloads. Choose plans with unlimited bandwidth or with sufficient allocation based on expected traffic.
    • CDN Use a CDN like Cloudflare to speed up content delivery, especially for media files, and to reduce the server load.
