• I’m trying to enable comments on our posts. I’ve already updated the Discussion Settings and checked the Allow Comments box in the Discussion Box within the post editor.

Is there anything else that needs to be done in order to activate the comment box?

  • It depends on what you chose on the Settings > Discussion page.
At the top, the first section applies only to new posts. (defaults going forward)
Existing posts will have whatever the default was when the post was created.
The other options are conditions for displaying and closing and how comments are output. So, if you didn’t choose to close comments after a time frame, the theme should show them. Of course, the theme should be outputting comments correctly for this to work.

Each post has its own setting for allowing comments. These can be changed in Bulk Action on the Posts list, or a plugin.
If you don’t have any plugins affecting comments, then it’s the theme that has the last say. You can test whether your theme is handling comments correctly by using Customizer to Live Preview one of the default themes and see if you get a different result.

@joyously It’s set so all new posts have a comment box. I’ve posted twice since updating that setting and neither one displays the comment box. I’ve even gone to previous posts and turned on comments and still do not see a comment box.

I’ll take a look at the theme customizer.

    Thanks!
