Best free customizable theme?

  • Is there a free theme that is very configurable without CSS, and is stil being maintained?

    I want to change things like menu font size, menu font, menu background color, header background photo, content area background photo, header title font style, header title font size, …

    Currently I’m using astra theme free, but it has nowhere near the amount of customizations I need.

    You could use a starter theme like “_s” (underscore-s). It only provides enough CSS for basic functionality. You essentially have to add in your own styling for almost everything.

    This may seem like too much in the other direction. I’ve found that trying to fight a full theme’s default styling to be a huge hassle much of the time, resulting in cumbersome CSS. I think it’s better to start with what I want from the start if it’s more than changing some colors in a theme. This does require one to be fairly adept at CSS since it’s all on you.
