• Hi, I just installed the WP-Optimize plugin but I’ve already been using Smush to optimize my images for a while now. Can they be used simultaneously or should I disable the Images features in WP-Optimize? OR should I compress images in WP optimize to cut down on the number of plugins I’m running?

  • Hi there,

    Can they be used simultaneously

There isn’t any benefit in using them both, as the compression will be very similar, so I would recommend using only one of the two.

Which one, that’s your choice, depending on what you prefer.

The images previously compressed by Smush won’t be recognized as compressed by WP-Optimize, unless if you manually mark them as already compressed, which is something to consider if you’re going to switch to only using WP-Optimize.

Thank you for sharing. Unfortunately, I did have WP Optimize compress my images that had already been done by Smush before I read this. Things seem fine so I can’t tell if I’ve caused any harm through double compression. I would like to uninstall Smush and take care of compression – along with everything else – in WP-Optimize (I love one-stop-shopping and always try to minimize # of plugins wherever possible). Any advice about how to go about this safely?

There shouldn’t be any issue in doing this, apart from spending time trying to do something that was already done.

Not specially. If you’re switching from one plugin to an other one that does the same thing, I would just advise deactivating the first one before activating the other one. This is specially true when it comes to caching plugins.
