Verifying WordPress with Google Webmaster Tools
-
I’m trying to use Webmaster Tools for my WordPress site, and to do so you need to have the site verified with Google.
You verify your website one of two ways… using a meta tag, or uploading an html file with a name with a name like “googled21c8b6b5a6c6619.html” to to your root directory.
I wasn’t sure what to do here, so I read a bit about it, and found that basically all you have to do is create a new page with the name “googled21c8b6b5a6c6619-html”. Ya I know it’s obvious after reading it.
So anyway, apparently this works for most people, but I created the page and the verification isn’t working.
The only problem I can think of is that WordPress replaces the “.” with a “-“… so the page is “googled21c8b6b5a6c6619-html”. Although when I type it in with the dot it redirects to the page with the dash.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to do this that’d be great.
There’s also the meta alternative… for me it’s “<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”Di_Al1I4cvN7DRwoGBhRsyZJdm4I1TmmnmwmQVuDsqA” />”.
I could use this with all in one SEO pack in the keywords section maybe?
Thanks!
