Post-processing of the image failed.

I’m suddenly (it has been fine) now getting an error message when uploading a Featured Image in my CPT.
Post-processing of the image failed. If this is a photo or a large image, please scale it down to 2500 pixels and upload it again.
If I deactivate your plugin it all works fine. Do you have any ideas why?
Note: I just tried downgrading to PHP 7.2 (from 7.3) and now appears to work. Not sure if a conflict with latest version of WordPress (v5.3.2) from my Google research or your plugin?

Hi @lindsay-heydon,
Sorry to hear that! Could you let us know if the issue occurs on a standard WordPress Post and Page as well?
Thanks!
It does seem to be only with the CPTs (I use Toolset).
It was all working fine (it’s a site I’ve been developing so have done a lot of uploading images).
Hi @lindsay-heydon,
Thanks for the information. When you get the chance, please check out our guide to enable debugging on your site, and let us know if you manage to log any error messages?
Thanks!
Hi, I’m now on WordPress 5.4 and all is working perfectly and without error. It’s all much quicker now too, which is an added bonus.
Thank you for all your support, much appreciated.
Hi @lindsay-heydon,
Glad to hear that! Thanks for taking the time to let us know ??
Hmmm, seems to have reappeared.
This is my error log. Hope it helps. I’m going to go back to the earlier version of PHP for now.

Thanks for the details! It looks like certain database tables are not created for your site. To fix this, please try the following:
1. In the WordPress admin area, open
example.com/wp-admin/options.php
on your site (replaceexample.com
with your domain)2. Find on the page these keys:
wpforms_version_lite
andwpforms_version
3. Change their values to the previous version of the plugin:
1.5.8.2
4. Save the options.
5. Open plugin settings page
/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpforms-settings
.Please let us know how it goes.
Thanks!
Well I completed all the steps and opened /wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpforms-settings and nothing happened there (not sure if it should).
I tried uploading an image but still have same error, though nothing is now being logged in the debug.log.
One other thing, I initially changed my hosts file at the start of development so I can work on the domain before we repoint the DNS. I’m not sure this is having any effect because 1. it did all initially work fine and 2. if I revert back to PHP 7.2 again all is fine. Just thought I’d mention though.
Many thanks for all your help. Lins
Hi @lindsay-heydon,
Thanks for the details. Could you let us know the error message you’ve receive when uploading an image to your CPT?
Thanks!
It’s not changed… as in the original post.
Post-processing of the image failed. If this is a photo or a large image, please scale it down to 2500 pixels and upload it again.
Many thanks – Lins
Hi @lindsay-heydon,
It looks like this issue could be due to an update in WordPress 5.3, and a possible fix for that would be to use the Disable “BIG Image” Threshold. When you click on the link, you can find more details regarding the issue as well.
Hope this helps!
OK – thank you. I’m not sure this is it though as the images I had been trying to upload were under 1000, i.e. pretty small.
Hi @lindsay-heydon,
If you still encounter any errors with your custom post type, I’d suggest reaching out to your developer or hosting provider for a more in-depth troubleshooting, as they should be able to take a closer look into your site.
It does seem to have settled down.
I’m doing some training next week and once we are back to work it’ll be used a bit more. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Hi, just to let you know. I did some training today in Posts (so wasn’t using my own CPTs) on a laptop I hadn’t used before. I had same issue. When I cleared my cache on my PC issue returns.
In short; with cache cleared on PHP 7.3 all works fine with WPForms disabled. With it enabled I get the error.
Post-processing of the image likely failed because the server is busy or does not have enough resources. Uploading a smaller image may help. Suggested maximum size is 2500 pixels. My image was 989 by 958 pixels.
So I’m back to PHP 7.2 where all works fine.
I’ve tried turning off ModSecurity with PHP 7.3 and WPForms enabled and also adding add_filter( ‘big_image_size_threshold’, ‘__return_false’ ); to functions.php but neither helps.
I think it’s probably an issue with WordPress… I will also contact my hosting company.
