I’m trying to import a CSV file of only 30 variable products and variations (3 each) on a site in a Multisite installation using the standard WooCommerce “Product Import” option.

I know the CSV file is good, as I’m able to import them into another test site on the Network without issue in just a few minutes.

On the target site, it starts, but then never shows a progress bar or any progress. When I stop it after any amount of time, by going to the Products section, I see only one or two products created, usually only one fully.

I’ve imported this way to this site several times, but not since 4.0, but again it worked fine on the other site on the Network.

I’ve tried disabling all non-network activated plugins (i.e. so nothing different from the other site it worked on), and it still does the same thing.

Anyone have any idea why it would just stall like this and/or how to tell what’s happening? Or how to get past this very odd issue?

    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Hello,

Thanks for reaching out about this import issue you see. I understand this site is essentially the same as the others so the import should work. But can you manually enter one of the variable products, with all variations, then export that CSV from the site to compare the CSVs? It may show the differences between the site and the import file. You should also be able to use the newly exported CSV from the new site to fill in the rest of the product data and import it back into the new site.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions about this. Thanks!

    Hi Phillip,

It turns out the issue was the product images file uploads were stalling out the import.

Still not sure why, but I got around it by pre-uploading the images to the same directory as the import file and just used the file names in place of the full paths, and it worked fine then.

It was actually a lost fast too, as the images were already uploaded.

Still not sure why to had a problem uploading the images during the import. I’d never had that issue before. I had a hunch it was the images as after a few tried it seemed to only be uploading the first images or two.

    Odd.

    Thanks,
    Michael
