I have Updraft set to upload to my Dropbox. Everything works great except it creates four different zip files for my Uploads backup and labels them “uploads, uploads2, uploads3, uploads4”

The full names are below, for clarification:

    backup_2020-03-24-1801_Bucksaw_Creative_bf7c235badbe-uploads.zip
    backup_2020-03-24-1801_Bucksaw_Creative_bf7c235badbe-uploads2.zip
    backup_2020-03-24-1801_Bucksaw_Creative_bf7c235badbe-uploads3.zip
    backup_2020-03-24-1801_Bucksaw_Creative_bf7c235badbe-uploads4.zip

The other backup files such as database, others, themes, and plugins all have only one backup file each.

Can anyone explain why this is happening?

    Hi,

UpdraftPlus will split large backup entities into more manageable chunks by default this is 400Mb chunks.

This is so we don’t have to upload and download very large files, which can be a problem on cheap hosting.

As the uploads directory can get quite large, this means that most sites will have multiple uploads backup zips.

So this is nothing to worry about and is expected.

    Best Wishes,

Ah that makes sense. Thanks for making it clear!

So in my Dropbox, which has backups from several different backup sessions, I see a long list of various backup files. I have to carefully look at the dates to see which ones are from the same session.

Is there any way to set Updraft to save each session in its own folder with the date?

It seems other backup plugins create one file per backup. However I am not to judge if this is better.

    Hi,

    That is not possible sorry.

In the UpdraftPlus settings you should see a list of existing backups where they will be sorted by backup time for easier viewing.

    Best Wishes,

    Ashley
