How to get URL of a marker icon

  • Sorry, newbie here. I want to change the default marker. I can find public/free icon libraries such as Google – but that will just give me a monochrome image file to download.
    WP won’t let me upload that to the Media library (security!)
    So please, can someone show me a step by step of how to get a (coloured, preferably) icon image’s URL?

    Love the plugin – so much easier to use than My Maps!

    That seems odd that WP won’t let you upload the image; that’s what the Media library is for! You should be able to see an example of a custom icon in the shortcode helper page in the admin. Check under Leaflet Map on the left-hand-side.

    OK I solved it thanks. The example you mentioned uses an imgur server. The icons I bought don’t allow me to link to them directly.
    Actually I found a free and better icons source at Mapicons. Brilliant! I’ve uploaded them to another server (my own) and they work fine.
    I have seen (but not tested) that you can use Dropbox to serve icon images.
