Edit Blank Slate Landing Page

My landing page is running very slowly due to my website having a bunch of bloated content. When I change the landing page template to Blank Slate, it runs much faster, but the main content image gets distorted a bit. Is there a way to make edits to the landing page while it’s in Blank Slate mode? Or am I misunderstanding the use of the Blank Slate template.

Is there any other way to have my landing page not use the Header and Footer of my website? I believe that’s what slowing my landing page down.
