Help, RankMath got ALL my pages taken out of Google!

    I was tearing my hair out wondering why more and more of my pages were getting removed from the Google index.

    Then I realised from Search Console that all my Sitemaps were NoIndex!

    NoIndex for sitemaps? How on earth did that happen?

    I’ve finally traced it to RankMath. I do a server header check on my sitemaps with RankMath disabled and everything is fine. I do a server header check on my sitemaps with Rankmath on and…

    < HTTP/1.1 200 OK
    …
    < X-Robots-Tag: noindex

    I tried back and forth a few times and it’s clearly RankMath.

    Went to WP Dashboard > RankMath > Sitemaps and checked all my settings. All fine.

    Back to a header check.

    And all my sitemaps have noindex!

    We highly recommend going through the following guides to set up the plugin completely and correctly:

    With that said, if you are talking about the Sitemap file, like:
    https://rankmath.com/sitemap_index.xml

    That file should be set to NoIndex and that tag should not be changed. You do not want the Sitemap file to be indexed but the URLs inside it.
