    Hi,

My wordpress is set to compress ipeg images to a quality of 82, it was the default setting, which I am fine with.

However I was wondering if this means that I should NOT lower the quality of the original pictures before uploading them.

I usually export my pictures in photoshop and set them as progressive and a quality of 80. Does this mean that wordpress will re-compress and already optimized picture and thus give the thumbnails a drop in quality further than if my original picture was at 100 quality ? Or perhaps I should export my original picture in something higher than 82 ?

I am not sure how wordpress handles these situations.

    Thank you

The original is not changed. It is the other generated sizes of the image that use the quality percentage, which can be changed with a filter.
Maybe you should do a few tests with different sizes and resolutions to see if what you get needs tweaking.
