So far it has been possible to enter SEO data Title, Slug, Meta Description and Keyword for images in Media Library > Edit more details > Edit snippet but not anymore. No problems with Pages, Posts and Portfolios.

Here is how I have tried to test and find the reason for missing Snippet Editor.

    1. Installing current Twenty Nineteen
    2. Inactivating all plugins and re-activating Yoast SEO
    3. Site Health warns : Your PHP version requires an update
    4. Using latest version of Firefox, Opera and Chrome
    5. Setup: Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself? YES
    6. WordPress version 5.3.2
    7. Yoast SEO version 3.0
    8. Deleting and re-installing Yoast SEO

Can you please let me know what could be best workaround if it’s not any more possible. Hopefully this could be fixed.

When ‘Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?’ is set to ‘Yes’, the meta box is hidden. This is intended behavior because the meta box settings (title, description, etc) would be output on the attachment page but the ‘Yes’ setting redirects that page to the attachment itself. Thus, search engines would never see those settings so we hide the meta box.

    Thank for your response.

We updated Yoast SEO version to 13.1. After that all plugins were inactivated to check if this upgrade has influence to image SEO data on Media Library > Edit more details page. I can edit as before following fields: Alternative Text, Caption, Description. Still Yost SEO : Focus keyphrase – Edit Snippet : SEO Title, Slug, Meta Description are by now missing.

Our images (generally whole site) are quite well indexed by Google and for this great thanks to Yoast. But how could I manage from now on? Hopefully you could give some advice.

Ref to first section “After that all plugins except Yoast SEO were inactivated to check if…”

Media items are stored in the database as posts, this means they’re accessible under their own URLs. The pages are called attachment pages.

    Attachment page: https://example.com/imagename
    Image itslef: https://example.com/wp-content/uploads/02/imagename.png

Yoast SEO can apply settings (titles, description, etc) to the attachment page.

Yoast SEO can not apply settings (titles, description, etc) to the image itself.

    5. Setup: Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself? YES

Selecting ‘Yes’ redirects the attachment page to the image itself. As Yoast SEO cannot apply settings to the image itself, the meta box to define those settings is not shown on the edit attachment screen.

This does not impact whether or not Google can index the images on your site.

Good no know the structure of media items.

I hope you could confirm if it is possible to enter Yoast SEO in Media Library for images by Snippet Editor according to link https://yoast.com/yoast-seo-7-7/ ?

That depends on the option selected for ‘Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?’

Yes = Hidden snippet editor (attachment page is not available)
No = Visible snippet editor (attachment page is available)
