    Hi

I have an image gallery that is 8 images wide and I have told FT gallery that the Tile Minimum Width is 150px.

I have uploaded my images to WordPress and they are all muchh bigger than 150px wide and about 500KB each. WordPress magically creates a bunch of smaller images of different sizes one of which is 150px x 150px. I have no idea why it does this or how these smaller images ever get used.

I have checked site download speed testing with pingdom and it indicates that the 500KB images are downloaded.

When I inpect the Network traffic in my browser as the page loads it reports that it is downloading the original big 500KB images then it goes back and gets the 150x150px images.

What is the best way to avoid the big images being downloaded? How does the browser know to go back and get the 150pxx150px images?

    Anyone?

    Thanks

  • Hello @mollel,

Thank you for reaching out to us!
In order for the thumbnails to be resized to the image size you set up in your gallery you need to either first select the size and then upload the images in your gallery or you need to edit each image (click on the pencil shaped icon that appears when you hover over an image) and choose from there the size you want, in your case 150×150 and then save.
The size of the thumbnails will be displayed on the image, here is a screenshot: https://gyazo.com/39e8447ee877b2aafe3a2f9efb311f13

Also please keep in mind that this size is used only for the images inside the thumbnails, the images in the lightbox will be displayed at the original size.

Can you please send me your gallery’s url so I can take a look?

    Thank you,
    Mihaela

    Hi Mihaela

Thanks for getting your reply. I am not sure I explained the problem properly.

I have a FTG gallery. I have set the image sizes to 150×150. They are 150×150 as reported in the FTG just like in your link. I can see they are 150×150 if I browse my sites directory.

The problem is if I visit my page the big images download then the 150×150 images download. I can see this by inspecting network traffic in my browser. For performance reasons I only want the 150×150 images to downloads then if someone clicks for light box get the big image. Downloading big images is imo un-necessary and time consumimng unless using the lightbox.

    Regards

    Mollel

Can you please send your gallery’s url so I can take a look?
I was unable to replicate this on my end.
