• Hello,

I am completely new to wordpress. I had a site build by a developer. The site built on a theme and the homepage can only be edited by going to Appearance -> Theme Editor. Once there I can select Homepage on the right side of the editor and can see the page code. All other page can be accessed from All Pages.

I am familiar with HTML and editing the page, but would like to be able to have an option of editing the site in the future. It looks like it is possible to use Dreamweaver to edit the site, but for that the live site should be exported and imported as a local site.

So far I was able to install and configure wamp and wordpress on my local PC. The issue I have is will export and import.

I used the Export tool and exported All Content, however after the import the images and the actual homepage were not imported. I have images in the Media section and I have galleries that were created with plugins.

What is the best way to export and import the entire side (theme, images plugin galleries, etc) so it can be edited in Dreamweaver?

Alternatively, I heard of the WPBaker plugin. Will that work with theme based websites?

    Thanks

  • The best way is to export your site’s database and the wp-content folder, that way you can replicate the exact look.

You can export the database using PHPMyAdmin and copy the wp-content folder using FTP.

As far as I know, you can’t edit an existing site with page builders like WPBakery, etc. unless the pages were built with that builder.

    PS
I’d recommend building the site afresh as it makes no sense to be editing a WordPress site with Dreamweaver.

I spend lots of money to get the site built and rebuilding the site is not possible at this time. The site is brand new.

Is there a plugin or way to be able to make edits visually?

None that I know of, It has to be edited with the tool it was built with. Could you list the plugins on the site here?
