    Hello,

I have a multisite and a forum (Asgaros Forum) where users have to register in order to write in the forum.

So if someone registers on one of the multisite subsites as forum user (on domain.tld/wp-signup.php default page), the user will get the default WP-email for new user registrations where he can activate the account by click and he gets his password shown on the website.

I have to edit this email as its a bit too short (spamfilters) and anonymous and has no privacy policy or legal notice link inside.

If the user then clicks on the link and activates his account, he gets 2 emails! The defauls post-registration email from WP and my custom BNFW user-post-registration-email which I configured. How can I disable the WP-default email? In this case its very important as the WP post-registration email has is very anonymous and it has the password in cleartext (!) inside (no-go in times of the GDPR …)

    Thank you!
    Plastikschnitzer

    Hi @plastikschnitzer,
    Thanks for your message.

It sound as if a plugin conflict may be causing an issue. Usually this happens when another plugin handles the registration or login elements of your site.

Can you make sure BNFW and WordPress are up-to-date and then test with just the BNFW plugin enabled, along with the Twenty Twenty theme on the Multisite to see if, when a new user register, you still receive two emails?

Thank you for your quick reply! I switched to the twentytwenty theme and tested again.

Result same as before, the initial user registration email is still wordpress default any my own BNFW version is ignored.

When I confirm the registration, I still get 2 emails: My post-registration email from BNFW and the original WordPress post-registration email.

Maybe its the whole multisite itself which is the problem? I now learned that the public user registration on wp-signup.php only works for the whole network, not for subsites. So users who register on this defaul wp-signup.php page are only in the network users administration, not in the user administration of my subblog. Thats expected behavior by WordPress as I learned. But I set up my email templates on subsite basis and not for the whole network, is that maybe the reason why things are not working as expected here?

    Hi @plastikschnitzer,
    Thanks for testing.

As far as I know, a user should be able to register for each site and not be assigned at the network level as well. I think this is the issue you’re having.
