Google verification code and or sitemaps

Hi, I would like to understand the difference between the two:
1:
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/add-website-google-search-console/I have added the verification code of Google in the plugin Yoast SEO.
2:
https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#googleI have added the sitemaps to the Google Search Console.
I have added both of them. Is that the proper way or do I have to choose on of them? Thank you.
