No way to link a cover block?

I am having this same issue. I feel like I must be doing something wrong because I can’t believe the cover block would be so limited. Is it really just for decoration? You can’t add a button that works?

For now I am using AB Containers and changing the background image, but there is no overlay option like in the Cover block, so I am using AB Advanced Columns and adding background color to the columns so the text shows up above the image.

Yes, I appreciate there are block plugins to enable enhanced functionality like this but this really is something which you shouldn’t need to add extra plugins to achieve, for me this is a must for the core block.

I agree, it is not a very useful block without it.
