• Hello all,

I have a main domain (domain1) and a sub-domain (domain2) currently installed on a standard Linux OS. My current WP installation is in a separate directory on domain 2 (i.e. domain2/blog).

What I would like to do is to create a new domain (example – https://www.domain3.org.uk) and run this new domain using WP. I want the URL to be like a normal link to a site, in other words I don’t want to have it read https://www.domain3.org.uk/blog.

If I create the new domain, and then install WP, how do I avoid the installation creating a sub-directory on domain3?

I know that this is probably a fairly basic question to many of you long-time WP users, so do please forgive me as I don’t want to do the wrong thing and end up in a mess.

    Many thanks,

    Alan

wordpress does not create sub directories
when you unzip the file – upload all contents inside of wordpress folder to your root, then run installer from root – like
    https://example.com/wp-admin/install.php

if you are using an auto install from host – just specify the root and make sure there are no index files already present

Thanks for your reply. I have just checked, and if I have read things correctly then all the domain1 files are in /public_html/, the sub-domain (domain2) files are held in /public_html/example1.org.

I have used domain1, 2 & 3 by way of illustrating things and the Index files currently exist as follows:

    My main domain: /public_html/index.htm
    domain2: /public_html/domain2.org/index.htm
My current WordPress installation is on domain2, and is found at:
    domain2: /public_html/domain2.org/blog/index.php

So are you suggesting that so long as there is no other index.php file in the new sub-domain (domain3), then it would be ok to point the auto install of WP towards /public_html/domain3.org.uk ? Or have I totally misunderstood everything?

I apologise in advance for any lack of understanding on my part.

    Thanks again,

    Alan

then it would be ok to point the auto install of WP towards /public_html/domain3.org.uk

Sounds good. But your domain2.org is in a sub-folder called blog, so may want to consider if you want domain3.org to maintain a similar directory structure.
