Explicitely non-customization/developper friendly
-
As of end of 2019, The developpers made the clear decision to make the plugin non-customizable.
The options we have to customize colors and layout are either non-present or non-functionnal.
In their css they are using ulta specific targeting making customisation virtually impossible to do. Class + tag of all parents to the element AND using !important on the styling itself. (old-um-default.css)
(Please why ? Unless you’re trying to prevent developers from customizing, specific targeting is sufficient.)They apparently removed previous customization options we had from 2018 in the appearance panel (it’s still in their documentation, don’t get fooled, it doesn’t exist).
Their “templating” options basicaly allows us to write our own plugin from the ground up. Because if not, it’s just a series of non-template-specific-editable action hook calls.
We have options to customize forms to a certain extend. For exemple, we can edit the login form’s logged out state (but why would you, it’s just username and password ). But the logged-in state is non-editable. So it displays non-removable user picture and non-editable links and there is nothing you add, style or remove from it.
They have a ton of paid extra-plugins but I’m not sure one of them would allow more customization. (at least if it did I would have understand why the free version was so locked down).
So you’re basically stuck with the stock configuration with virtually no customisation. To be honest, it’s pretty good. But you will probably stay with default options.I recommend looking for another plugin if you want a plugin adaptable for your usecase or code your own.
