Help with mobile view

Hi
If I test the site on Google Pagespeed Insights,

1. the Mobile results are quite miserable (45 – 72) and the screenshot shows the site practically pressed together with the right sidebar not being moved below primary content.
2. That makes the content smaller and harder to read than it could be.

With Jetpack => Writing => Mobile Theme and the first 3 options enabled,

1. the Google Pagespeed Insights performance for Mobile are much better, mostly between 80 & 92.
2. the site does not have the preferred dark theme, but is white, which has some disadvantages, including some of the light colored fonts in some content not being clearly visible.
3. The menu and other stuff seem to be OK in the Pagespeed screenshot. I have not been able to test this again on smartphone for some technical reasons.

Currently, the site has Jetpack Mobile Theme settings activated.

I tried to look for help to be able to customize the Jetpack mobile view, but somehow it did not work and caused some problems like somehow disrupting the site-wide font settings, making it too small, when I enabled the Jetpack mobile theme setting => “Enhance CSS customization panel” which is below the above settings. The expected options to edit the color & other mobile settings could not be accessed.

The Jetpack support advised me to use Spacious for the theme, mentioning its “Responsive” feature.

This left me a bit confused as I have the above mentioned issues WITHOUT Jetpack.

So my question is, how exactly is a site using Spacious supposed to appear and perform in Mobile format?

• Is it possible to have it look like the current form at above link with Jetpack or it is expected to have the right sidebar, which however, makes content harder to read, because of the 2 content areas being forced in mobile format to be side by side, instead of the sidebar content moving below?
• if it is in the current format, how can I get it to have the colors of the desktop format, at least as option? Which CSS settings should I use?
• can something be done about the considerable difference in speed performance at Pagespeed Insights without the Jetpack mobile settings?
