Rename or Delete Parent Category?

  • I’m wanting to either rename or delete my parent category, but am a little weary about doing so. I had the site sent out to someone to convert it to a WP Theme and they setup the main parent category as “sitemap”. The problem with that is if I actually create a sitemap none of my posts will show up under my categories they all have a 404 error. So I’m needing a little guidance here. My main concerns are:

    a) Will the posts automatically be updated with the new path if the name is change or deleted?
    b) Will I encounter any problems with the the sitemap I have displayed in my footer?

  • a) if the category name, and slug, is changed, your posts should be fine. If the category is deleted, all of the posts will be re-filed under your default category (whatever that is).

    b) if your sitemap is being created via WP, it should also update.

    Hi,

    1) When you delete the category all the posts which resides to that category will assign to the default category of your blog.

    2) When the XML Sitemap generator file update it will update the details automatically.
