Pages on Root Directory

    I have a site with all my blog posts in a /blog/ directory. That’s where the posts live. I have a custom permalink for the posts to handle that.

    For the pages, I am trying to replicate existing pages which are NOT in the /blog/ directory. So these would be pages like

    /about/information.asp

    Your plug-in is requiring that all pages I create go into the /blog/ directory with the posts.

    I want to allow the pages to be separate from that /blog/ directory.

    On your configure settings page, for the field where it says

    Custom Permalink for Pages:

    The greyed out unchangeable area at the start is

    https://aspisfun.com/blog

    It doesn’t allow me to change that. That is the custom permalink I have set for posts, but I don’t want it to affect pages at all. That should only affect posts.

    For current existing pages, they aren’t being put in /blog/. So this for example is a WordPress page:

    https://aspisfun.com/hourlyrate-html/

    There’s no /blog/ in that URL. I need to change that so it is hourlyrate.html. I don’t want it in the blog directory.

    I think you want to set the permalinks of your post like this: https://aspisfun.com/blog/moving-wordpress-blog-from-subdirectory-to-root-main-level/

    and your page like this: https://aspisfun.com/hourlyrate.html

    Am I right?

    Yes, exactly right. The posts are all in a /blog/ directory.

    Pages are all currently standalone files in their own directories like this –

    https://aspisfun.com/course/

    and

    https://aspisfun.com/course/course01.html

    I need to get those standalone pages into WordPress. I’m now considering using a 301 redirect instead, and just giving up on maintaining those old names.

    This page here:

    is a HTML page. It’s a real, hand-coded page in raw HTML that I just made pretty to look like it’s in WordPress. It’s not.

    I want to move that content into WordPress so I don’t have to manually update the template of the HTML file every time I update WordPress.

    I need the URL in WordPress to match that existing URL of the existing HTML file, so I can delete the existing HTML file and just have the WordPress version live.

    HI,

    Now I get it. Please follow the below steps.

    1. Create a New Page in WordPress and name it Course. Now set the permalink of this page as: https://aspisfun.com/course/

    2. Create again a New Page in WordPress and name it Course 1. Now the permalink of this page as: https://aspisfun.com/course01/

    3. Now go to the WP Page Permalink Extension Settings > Custom Permalink for Pages. Then set the plugin settings like this screensshot: https://prntscr.com/q1l83u

    4. Then go to the edit area of Course 1 page and Set Course as patent page: https://prntscr.com/q1l93c

    5. Then the new url will be: https://aspisfun.com/course/course01.html (https://prntscr.com/q1l9wq)

    I will give that a try soon on one of my other sites and let you know. I’ve decided for this ASPIsFun.com site I’m going to use 301 redirects instead, so the WordPress filenames are good ones. But I have plenty of other sites to try this on, with the same problem, to see if it helps there.
