Plugin caused fatal error, website and dashboard inaccessible through browser
-
Hi there,
I was running version 4.1.6 and last night I got a warning message by email from WordPress regarding a ‘fatal error in the plugin Email Subscribers & Newsletters’:
Error details
=============
An error type E_ERROR was caused on line number 347 of the file D:\appdata\IIS\vhosts\xxxx.nl\httpdocs\wp-content\plugins\email-subscribers\includes\admin\class-es-campaigns-table.php. Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 18874368) (tried to allocate 32768 bytes)(message translated into English)
I tried to visit my website, but the browser gave me all kinds of ‘fatal’ and ‘out of memory’ errors and didn’t show the website’s front. I even couldn’t login into the WordPress dashboard anymore.
So I searched the internet, saw the author’s message at the top of this forum about the need to update and did so using FTP (went very slow, but eventually did the job). Afterwards the website came back online again.
Problem solved, I suppose. But I’m still a bit worried why this happened out of the blue. What are the ‘vulnerabilities’ mentioned in the ‘update now’ message from the author? Could they be related to what happened to my website? Should I be worried someone hacked into my website? Do I need to do some additional checks to be sure all is okay now?
Thanks very much in advance,
Plimfec
