Maybe you are thinking of the designs as posts like iFiz.net 2.0 (cloudy reality), when it’s just a header under the post Matter of styles ??which is linked.

I am pretty sure it’s part of the background image, if you look at the kubric theme; https://binarybonsai.com/kubrick
You can see the content is surrounded by a large div container called .page and the background image on that is like 760px or so with the shadows on the side. Then the content only takes up around 740 px so around 10px on each for shadows on the outer edges (The pixels are of course just estimates :P)
