It looks like someone put “/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php” in the “Immediately block IPs that access these URLs” field. Now we can’t do anything in wordfence or many plugins as the admin-ajax is blocked. And we can’t remove the line in wordfence because, well, the functionality to save it is blocked. So we’re stuck here, how do we disable the disable and allow admin-ajax functionality again? I looked for the string in the db but was unable to locate it, need help!

  • The fastest way would be to use FTP to rename the wordfence folder in wp-content/plugins to wordfence.bak which would deactivate Wordfence and should let you in.
Note : You can deactivate any plugin this way

Next install the Wordfence Assistant plugin from the www.remarpro.com repository
Use it to “Disable Wordfence Firewall” which would turn off blocking options like country blocking, etc but does not affect the actual WAF. This would allow you to change the “Immediately block IPs that access these URLs” option.

Reactivate Wordfence and remove /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php from the “Immediately block IPs that access these URLs” option.
    Save the changes

Go to the Wordfence Firewall > All Firewall Options page and look in the Rate Limiting section. Move the slider witch to the on position where it says “Enable Rate Limiting and Advanced Blocking” and save the changes. The blocks should now be active again.

You can remove the Wordfence assistant plugin at this point.

In the future you should probably consider talking to any admins about making changes without understanding their impact. Feel free to reach out in these forums for help.
