How to translate Yoast SEO Facebook oGraph meta tags for homepage?

Hey there,

I’m using Polylang with Yoast SEO. As you all know it’s possible to translate the metadescription and/or title of your homepage, like “title-home-wpseo” and “metadesc-home-wpseo” via “Strings translations” in Polylang.

That works pretty well so far. However, I’ve not found a way to translate the Facebook open graph meta tags for the home page. If I send someone a link of the english homepage via Facebook, the German meta tags like title & description are displayed which I’ve chosen under Yoast SEO -> Social -> Facebook. Polylang does not show a field for the this under “String translations”.

How can we translate these?

I’ve reached out to Yoast SEO support and they gave the following answer:

We suspect the issue is with Polylang. Yoast has an action called ‘wpseo_opengraph’ which controls for outputting OpenGraph tags. We are not familiar with Polylang but if their plugin has not tapped into that action, the translated OpenGraph data may not appear on the right pages. We ask that you please reach out to the plugin developers and verify they have the correct for Yoast to integrate that feature with it.
