I’m pleased to announce the beta release of version 2.0.0 of this plugin, to be renamed “MRW Simplified Editor”. It includes changes to the block editor that are philosophically aligned with the plugin’s mission.

This also marks a move to open source development on Github where the beta is available for download.

You can find the full list of changes in the readme. New filters and code examples are further down the page in the FAQ section. Here’s the list of what it does:

    • Hides infrequently used blocks: Verse, Table, Preformatted, Code, More*, Nextpage, Spacer, Calendar, Tag Cloud, Search, RSS, Audio, Video, and Archive
    • Hides less common embeds: Amazon Kindle, Animoto, Cloudup, College Humor, Crowd Signal, Daily Motion, Hulu, Mixcloud, Polldaddy, Reverbnation, Smugmug, Speaker, Videopress, and WordPress.tv
    • Removes all preset Block Style Variations
    • Hides settings for dropcap, Heading 1**, Heading 5**, Heading 6**, image percentage and pixel sizing, and font sizing by pixel
    • Hides buttons for uploading images or inserting images via URL
    • Disables all color settings unless a theme explicitly defines a color palette
    • Calls extra attention to contrast errors

    * If you were adding the “More” button back to the TinyMCE editor, then the plugin should detect that and leave the More Block visible
** Headings only hidden for English sites right now

I hope to release the update in a week or two, and would appreciate any and all feedback and testing.

  • Just something i noticed quickly while testing. It conflicts with Beaver Builder loading the front end editor if your using the block editor for posts and BB for pages.

@patrick-b Thanks for the report. To track things better, I opened a new issue on Github.

I’m not super familiar with Beaver Builder, so it would be really helpful if you could provide a bit more info on how to reproduce the issue, any errors you’re seeing, etc. From reading your post, I’m not quite sure what “conflicts” means exactly.

Thanks for the report, and I hope we can resolve it quickly!

Yes I will definitely test it and get back to you on github to see whats causing the issue or narrow it down.

@patrick-b I just release 2.0.2 which I believe contains a fix for your issue. I was never able to replicate exactly what you described, but I ran into a very similar-sounding problem with WP Job Manager, and I suspect the fix for my issue will resolve yours as well. I’d love it if you could confirm when you have a chance.

Thanks again for reporting! I gave you some props in the changelog ??
