What is the latest WP version? 1.22 or 1.3?

  • Hi,
    What is the latest WP version? 1.22 or 1.3? on Downloads its 1.22 but there are templates (and appearently a templates dir. with 1.3) as much as i can read in this forum. I have installed 1.2 on fansatico but lask of a templates directory is nor conveniente as each time i need to install a theme i have to override the cureent 1 and its not practical and its a head and back ache!
    I would like to update to 1.3 but i can not find it.
    I am new and maybe its a dumb question for the rest of you ??

  • 1.2.2 is the current OFFICIAL ready release. 1.3 is still in the alpha testing and development stages. If you are looking for something to run a live site on, then 1.2.2 is your best bet. If you just want to play with the latest version (how ever some things may or may not work properly) then use 1.3.

    ok.. since it Beta and it woud be adventurist to try this. Especially when i am new to WP but how can i switch between templates on 1.22? i can not see template/skin change option on the Admin CP
    am i missing something?

    the template system is only on 1.3

    you could always install a style switcher plugin and skin your site with different stylesheets.

    You install the templates manually – which is no REAL problem – only a few alterations to make manually usually. It’s not as nice as theme handling in 1.3 – where any changes required of the main files are stored under the theme directory, avoiding the confusion of trying to back track themes/ plugins if you want to make changes in 1.2.
    1.2.2 was a security release/ bug fix – that latest security bug affecting 1.2 & 1.3 addressed within it. 1.3 has had no such ‘fix’ – though of course it gets re-built regularly. Am I right to assume that bugs [like that one] are fixed in the nightly builds automatically? I don’t mind the instability but it’d be irksome to find that security holes are unplugged.

    You download the templates (at the very least, a .css file, most of the time also an index.php file, and sometimes more) and drop them in your blog root (or wherever the template author instructs you to upload them). That’s it.
