Hacked by BALA SNIPER

I’ve been tasked with replacing the outdated bespoke theme used for the website above. However, whenever I download a new theme – whether via the Dashboard or from the developer’s website – and either activate or, or go into Live Preview, the message ‘Hacked by BALA SNIPER’ appears.
I’ve run the free version of Wordfence and deleted a couple of files which showed up as risks, but the problem persists. Have you any advice on how to rid the site of this problem? Incidentally, I’m quite happy using FTP to edit and delete files.

Hey @trevormiddleton,
If you’re seeing this message it means the site has been compromised. I’d suggest immediately changing all passwords including WordPress, sFTP, database, and hosting control panel.
The guide may help you clean the site. However, if it becomes reinfected it means the point of entry wasn’t found and patched. At that point, I’d suggest reaching out to a professional hack repair service to have the site cleaned and the point of entry patched.
