    Hello,

I’m having some issue with WooCommerce that I would love to solve. We have variations on the product but when you choose a variation that is out of stock, the “Add to Basket” button is still lit up suggesting it will work.

Is there a way to make it so that the button only becomes active when it is a variation that is in stock. Ideally, a variation out of stock would declare the stock number on the page when you select it?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi there,

The behaviour you’re describing is indeed the default that WooCommerce uses: Meaning that a notice is displayed about the product being out of stock AND the add-to-cart being disabled.

If you’re seeing something different, would you mind sharing a direct link to a product where’s that happening? Also, it’s most often caused by template overrides from a theme – are you seeing the same thing when temporarily switching to the TwentyNineteen or Storefront themes?

I’m looking for a way to change that – so that if a variation is Out of Stock it displays it every time a new variation is chosen.

    Hi @tschrsmln,

If I understand correctly, you want to make sure the “Add to Cart” button is inactive when a variable is out of stock:

As @riaanknoetze mentioned, when it is out of stock, it will be disabled bu default:

If you are seeing that your add to Cart button is still enabled when selecting a variable product that is out of stock, then please do the following conflict test:

First, backing up your live site before any testing and updates is highly recommended. If you would prefer not to do testing on your live site, first make a back up of your site, then create a staging site using this plugin WP Staging. This creates a copy of your live site where you can make tests without affecting your live site.

Temporarily switch your theme to one of our default – Storefront or Twenty Nineteen, then deactivate all plugins except for one – WooCommerce. If it shows correctly, then it’s a theme or plugin conflict. Reactivating each plugin one at a time, then see if the issue pops up again will tell us which plugin is conflicting.
