Upgrade 2.8.4 doesn’t show in dashboard

This is the second time I’ve manually upgraded from 2.8 to 2.8.4, but Dashboard still says I’m using 2.8 and prompts me to upgrade to 2.8.4.

The blog works fine, but today I purchased and downloaded a new theme which doesn’t work. My current theme by same author works fine, so I’d like to know if the problem is my WP installation before I contact the author.

For the second upgrade, I downloaded WP 2.8.4 direct from site just 2 hours ago, just in case my first download was damaged.
