How to make the featured image field required?

  • I need a way to force all published posts to have this field. It is required for my template and no matter how much I stress that every post must have one uploaded, content keeps going up without it.

    To my surprise I can’t really find any info on how to do this. Thanks in advance

  • You could put some code on the editor to check the featured image and disable the Publish button, but what are the consequences? How do you handle failure to upload?

    It would be better for the theme to supply a default(like a gradient) than make an image required.
    Or switch to a theme that doesn’t need an image for each.

    Thanks for your response. The theme does supply a default for the background but it is needed for the thumbnail for every entry regardless. There’s never a reason not to have one in this case.
