• I’m building a healthy living website that will have blogs/articles and ecommerce on the same pages. I will also have a community forum. I am hoping to have customers only need to log in once, despite the fact the site may run on 3 different platforms.

Can this be done with WordPress? Will pages load fast enough?

I have been thinking I would use WordPress for the blogs/articles, Magento for the ecommerce and someone else for the forum.

Alternatively, I could use Drupal or Joomla.

The look and feel of the site is very customized and is important to the success of the site, so I wouldn’t want to compromise there much. Also, I’m going to be running the site by myself initially (after it is developed)so it needs to have a simple back end. I have next to no programming skills (I’m having prof developers do development).

I really appreciate any insights you can offer!

  • WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla would have plugins or modules or bridges for Magento or their own e-commerce solution, all can be themed as long as you know what to do for any application.

Based on feedback from users, WordPress is their choice for ease of usage and easier to create a theme for. Your developer might have his own choice of platform to use, just make sure he/she leaves you with instructions on how to implement the platform and e-commerce solution before signing off.

Check out test installations of all three
    WordPress
    Joomla
    Drupal

I created a plugin to use Magento’s session within WordPress. Check it out if it suits you.
