Additional CSS / How to increase padding and font of Menu 1?

Am I able to adjust the look of Menu 1 at the top of the site by adding stuff in the “Additional CSS” section of theme customization?

(1) I would like the menu to be lower a little bit (is that additional padding?).
(2) And I would like the letters of the menu to be a larger font, and perhaps bolded.

I’m using the free theme: Write and Read.

Is any of this possible, and where would I go to get that help?
