Daan – Thank you very much for this plug-in. I just set it up, and got the fonts I needed after following your instructions. Ran the Google audit. “First contentful paint” and “First meaningful paint” are significantly lower than before. Thank you! But I’m still getting the message “Ensure text remains visible during webfont load” with potential savings of 200-300ms. Any idea?

I’m have Autoptimize installed (but not activated), I use GA/GTM for tracking in header script, and WP Fastest Cash for caching…

    Any idea?

Happy to buy you that beer BTW! ??

    Thank you again.

ps. I’m not very technical. Please use simple words ??

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @obahat,

Try using Fallback or Swap as a font-display option in OMGF’s options screen — make sure to generate the stylesheet again after saving the changes.

This should take care of the ‘ensure text remains visible during webfont load’.

Did you check ‘Remove google fonts?’ I seriously suggest activating Autoptimize and let it take care of the CSS and JS optimization.

    Hi Daan,

Thank you. Couple of follow-up questions if I may:
    1) The error/warning is not going away after I selected Fallback or Swap. Any idea?
    2) I have WP Fastest Cache Pro enabled. If I turn on Autoptimize, the SEO score on Google falls down, so I disabled it again. I assume that the two are conflicting and doing the same thing? Would appreciate your input on this.

    Thank you again!

    Hi @obahat,

    1) That’s weird. Have you emptied the cache before running the test again?
    2) Aha, WP Fastest Cache Pro does a lot of things that Autoptimize also does. You can remove Autoptimize, since WPFC Pro also does minification, etc.

    Hi @obahat,

I haven’t received the login credentials yet. Also, I’ve noticed that the fonts.css isn’t filled at all.

Have you added the fonts according to the manual?

Anyway, if you want me to help you, I’m going to need access to your WordPress administrator account.

I sent you an email from my work email and didn’t get a reply. What’s a good way to get you the credentials? You can email me at omri at recklaw.com

    @obahat,

I’ve sent you an email, but I’ll share the solution here as well for future reference.

The problem was that your theme (Hemingway) was loading the Google Fonts in an unconventional way. The theme’s main style sheet, depended on its Google Fonts, causing OMGF’s ‘Remove Google Fonts’-option, to also remove the theme’s main stylesheet.

Because other themes might do this as well, I decided to release an update. In v1.9.5 OMGF keeps this in mind and detects stylesheets which depend on Google Fonts and re-enqueues them, after removing the Google Fonts.

I’m happy we managed to get this resolved. Enjoy! ??
