• I want to change to a new, more complicated theme but I don’t want to take my other one down while I get it set up. Is there a way to do this?

  • diannehopp,

you could develop locally or test the new theme on your machine by installing Apache, PHP and MySQL.

    Easy set-up>>>
    For Mac use: MAMP
    For Windows use: WAMP

After this stuff is set up and running then copy your current wordpress files and database to the local set-up creating a sandbox. Then when you’ve got everything the way you want it you upload it to your live server.

This is how I imagine it could work but you might want to get a second opinion.

Theme Tester plugin allows testing of a new theme while showing exisiting theme to readers. Haven’t tried it myself.

Great plugin, I advise you use.
You can be working away testing new themes while your viewers will still be seeing the same theme.
    Highly recommend.
