• Good morning. I have a pretty new WP news page, running a custom theme, Jetpack and not much else.

My problem is simple. When I post the url to a published article into Facebook, it connects and pulls the featured photo, article title and excerpt just fine. The problem, however, is that after the article title I am getting a “|” at the end and then in the excerpt, before the actual excerpt, I am getting the category. I cannot for the life of me find where to edit this stuff. I am no newbie to WordPress nor Facebook by any means, but this one has me stumped.

    Thanks in advance

  • You can’t control what Facebook grabs from your page unless you insert what Facebook defined for that called Open Graph tags. You need a plugin to put this into your pages.
There are many available for the different social media platforms.
This article from one of the most popular describes the details.

Agreed Joy. I can’t ever recall seeing Facebook include the category before the excerpt though. This just started today. I’ve shared a few posts over the past couple of days that did not include it. I’m sure its something on their end though. I’ll check out Yoast. Thanks

Yoast allowed me to edit specifically what gets pushed to Facebook. Thanks for reminding me about them Joy ??
