Files being replicated on webhosting

    I have some webhosting which is going through some severe issues due to apparently Wordfence duplicating files and creating issues through our hosting.

    From the webhost support:
    “The plugin appears to be creating and duplicating Javascript files by the thousands, which in turn causes considerable load on the service.”

    Any idea how to fix this? We’re almost at capacity:

  • Hi @ashplatz,

    Do you have another other plugins that might be creating duplicate files? Such as a backup plugin or a migration plugin.

    Do you know where the duplicate files are appearing on the system?

    Hi @wfdave ,

    It’s duplicating in a folder under /public_html/s

    It’s causing me a lot of concern so i have deactivated the plugin for now. Not sure where to go from here.

    What is the list of plugins you have active on your site?

    Wordfence does not create a folder named /s/ within your document root, and it does not copy files from your web installation.

    As Dave mentioned this is not Wordfence behavior. We do not duplicate files or make random folders. I would look at anything making backups, maybe repliweb?, things like that. To be honest, it sounds like the web hosting support rep really didn’t understand the issue or want to escalate the issue. If they had looked at syslog files they may have got a better clue as to what process was doing this.
