• Hi and thank you so much for this stellar plugin!
We set up a new site and were very happy with the YT embeds but now after not touching the site for many weeks we suddenly noticed that all embeds have gone black.

No changes have been made, no updates on plugins or anything.

I debugged for two hours deactivating all other plugins, resetting settings, checking API connection, re-uploading thumbnails on YT itself, no success at all ??

can you give a hint on what might have happened here? The problem is sitewide on all instances (home and blog posts) of YT Embed on the site.

    YT Embed Version: latest
WP version: 5.11 (and it worked before)

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Aaron ????

Should there be a thumbnail on the page that you linked to?

Could you give me an example of your shortcode use of a thumbnail, so I can try and recreate it myself?

    Thanks.

Hi David, thanks for the swift reply!

    Example: https://storycrow.ch/videoserie-digitales-bauen-bim-zuerich/
on this page at the bottom the video was embedded using this shortcode:

    [youtube showinfo=0]href=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Lik-cDFAl4%5B/youtube%5D

We use exactly the same shortcode for every video on this site

Only a few weeks ago all of them were displaying the YT thumbs in hi res just fine.

    Thanks, Aaron

I’m a little confused Aaron – that shortcode displays the video and isn’t the one specifically for thumbnails. Do you mean the thumbnail that appears before the video is clicked? In this case, that’s not controlled by my plugin.

Ignore that… I’ve worked out what it is.

So, YouTube changed what some of the controls parameters did a while ago and I haven’t gotten around to updating this plugin to reflect that. It looks like YouTube has silently just changed this even further, meaning that they way you currently have it causes the thumbnail to disappear (no idea why).

Here’s what to do. Head to the YouTube Embed Profiles screen and find the section named Controls. Change it from…

Controls display & Flash player loads once video starts

    to

Controls display & Flash player loads immediately

Save the changes. It will still work as before but the thumbnails should now appear, as before.

David, thank you so much! That solved it – images are back again!

Keep up this great plugin, it really makes a difference ??

    Cheers, Aaron
