Is there a way to hide the “view profile” text/link on account page?

The site I am working on does not need the ability to have profiles, I simply want the users to be able to view and edit their own information and the profiles are not useful. Is there a way to completely get rid of the text/link that says “view profile”? I know I can change the access of the page itself but that does not solve the issue of the link showing up on the user’s account page.
