Problems finding where to translate specific strings

Thanks for contacting me here.

Most strings in the plugin are located in the translation file. This article will give you the specifics on how to translate the directory:

This can be used to change the labels as well as the language itself.

But some strings are located in the interface. For the specific ones above, the breadcrumb is NOT part of the directory, it’s most likely part of the theme or maybe a plugin.

The others should be in the PO Edit file, but be sure to allow fuzzy translations, otherwise it misses some strings. The article above talks about that a bit.

Try that and let me know if you run into more issues.

Thanks for your try to help me but I still have 2 issues. I searched everywhere and can not find it. I made 2 pictures so you can see it yourself.

With the search form at the index page I see this: https://webck.de/eintrag-dauerhaft-ausfuehren.jpg

Within each single entry I see this: https://webck.de/return-to-directory.jpg

(It doesn’t matter if I am logged in or not.)

Please be so kind to just tell me where to fix these 2 things.

I’ll need to check with the developer on them. The first one you mention is showing as translated and the only way that happens is if it’s in the translation file. You might double check that one again, but the other showing in English is definitely not right…

I will have my developer check into this and I’ll report back when I know more.

I did find all of the strings you referenced above in the German translation file, which you can edit in PO Edit. The file I’m referencing is (WPBDM-de_DE.po) for the requested strings, under the /languages directory of the plugin:

1:
A predefined string in the search-text-field says: “Eintrag dauerhaft ausführen”
It instead should say something like “input your search term”…
Where can I change this string?

Line 9403.

Also at single entries a button says “Return to directory”.
Where can I change this string?

Line 415.

You should be able to find those yourself now and make changes, using this article here as the reference:

a search within the WPBDM-de_DE.po for the string “Eintrag dauerhaft ausführen” leads to only one entry at lines 2350-2353. The translation seems to be correct for the given context. So this probably isn’t the point we are searching for.

None of the 7 entries seems to be what we are searching for.

It for me feels like the “error” isn’t within this po-file but somewhere else.

Other than that any suggestions to get it finally solved?

Hmmm. That’s surprising.

Can you please confirm what version of BD you are running right now? The specific numeric version is best.

I’ve alerted my developer to your response above…Can you give me a link to the specific page where you see “Return to Directory” so we can find that code in the plugin?

OK, we’re not 100% sure what might be going on here, so let’s start with a clean translation file that we know works.

I’ve changed the .po and .mo files and uploaded them here: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/c2d51db4d0db93c6c848be263c6576f220190716200805/fe5b19.

File should be unzipped and files should be placed in languages/ folder or in a location suggested in https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/translating-bd-other-language/ article.

If you don’t flush the cache after that operation, you’ll be seeing old data on your browser.

We recommend clearing the server cache, if you have one (which is found either in your hosting settings or on your plugin settings for things like WP Super Cache and W3TC if you have them installed), as well as your client browser cache.

The best way to get uncached data on your browser is to use a Private browsing window or Incognito mode (depending on your browser). That ensures you’re seeing the latest, correct data.

We strongly recommend using ONLY POEdit to change or manage these files, and to regenerate the .mo after you make updates to the .po. That may be the issue here, but it’s hard to tell remotely.

Try that and let me know if you run into more issues.
