    Hi,
    the number of items in the category is calculated by WordPress itself. In other words i do not count the number of items inside the category, WordPress does it for me.

    The number of items shown is the number of items assigned to this category, not subcategories also if the item is assigned to a category and sub-category then this will increase the count in each by 1.
