• First off, WordPress is amazing. I just set up my own WP server, after using WP.com for a while, and it was surprisingly smooth. Thank you all.

I do have a remaining challenge. I was able to export my wp.com site, and then import it into my wp.org site pretty easily. However the URL’s for the posts and pages have changed.

So a page went from this:
    https://mywebsitename.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/whats-on-my-mind/

    To this:
    https://mywebsitename.org/?p=362

I’m going to set up wp.com forwarding so that requests to my old site redirect to my new one. However if the permalink is changed after export, then the forwarding goes to a page not found.

Any ideas on how I can get this to map properly? I note that the exported XML file seems to have all of the old URLs in it; they just don’t seem to be used to create the pages on the .org site when I do import.

    thank you,

    Paul.
