I am planning to renew a website with 0.2 visits/day and 0.2 million posts. We are currently using Movable Type as CMS but looking into WordPress as a possible solution to renew the website.

Could you advise on the following?:
Is WordPress feasible to handle the website?
Is it hard to implement it?
Is it better to install any plugins?

    Thank you!

  • 200,000 posts? That’s more than 5 posts a day for 100 years. Or 50 posts a day for 10 years. What kind of content do you have that would require 200,000 posts? I’m guessing WordPress can handle that kind of volume, but I can’t say for sure.

.2 visits per day is easily manageable, but that’s more of a question for your host as some hosts have data transfer limits. But WordPress can handle that kind of traffic easily.

You will definitely need to install some plugins for added functionality, but which plugins will depend upon what functions you need to add. Are you planning on selling things on your site? Need to display picture galleries? One plugin that you should definitely install is Wordfence, which is a security plugin. You want to stick with plugins in the WordPress plugin repository unless you absolutely can’t find a plugin that fits your needs.

You will also need to pick a theme for your site. Again, there are thousands of themes to choose from depending upon what you want your site to look like. And I would recommend exploring the official WordPress repository before trying any commercial themes.

@crouchingbruin Thank you for the reply!

Basically, in our website, users can create simple posts to introduce their blog with short descriptions and thumbnails.
We don’t seel anything on our website but have login form for the other website.

I’ll definitely look into the plugins you suggested.

    Thank you!

If you have site with huge of content and multi user can register to upload article, if you want to use WordPress, you can setting up as multisite. A lot of plugin can installed to handle your type of blog.
